What a wonderful evening!! I introduced a piece titled "Woman's Work" to all my amazing women friends in Logan. This piece will be included in the up coming Finch Lane Gallery show in Nov. , then it will be shipped off to the Synergy 2 Exhibit in Baltimore. The theme is about connections, and this piece represents women and their connections to every facet of our lives. Thanks everyone....your contributions to the book  are honest and awe inspiring. You truly are amazing women!!!

According to the New York Times, in November 2009 “Women are poised to surpass men on the nation’s payrolls, taking the majority for the first time in American history." Working women influence every aspect of our lives from childcare to Science and technology. Whether working in the home or outside the home or like many, a combination of both, woman's work symbolizes the glue that keeps us connected to our families, our communities and our world. Woman’s work is not only vital but essential to our success as a human race.

I heard something so beautiful today that I just had to share it. James Taylor said something to the effect that when creative people are coming out of "impossible internal situations" they make a mark or path. When they are doing this thing , this " daring daylight escape, it looks like art". I know for me... this is where my most important and meaningful subject matter comes from that inspires my work. This is where passion and technique meld into emotion. That is where this piece came from. Somewhere very deep inside. It is titled Off the Deep End.  I also just finished a piece titled Women's work for the exhibit at the Synergy 2 conference in Baltimore this Feb. It turned out to be a little more complicated than I had planned. But that's what happens when you allow your experience to influence your expression. Photo's will be coming soon. img_2645

This weekend I watched a movie on the life of Georgia O'keeffe. What an amazing legacy she has left us. In her 98 yrs. she produced work that was so rich, strong and powerful but also subtle and feminine at times. Inspiring to all artists but especially to women she was driven by her passions and undaunted by her challenges. Creating Art can be a lonely profession. Our friend being quiet and solitude forcing out the disquiet shouting of our deepest souls. This is what I feel from her work. To all Artists deep in the zone of creating I salute you and thank you for your commitment and sacrifice to georgia-okeeffethe enrichment of humanity.

Yes, it's official! My work has been selected for Exhibit in the Finch Gallery at the Art Barn in SLC. I feel very honored and excited for this opportunity. The show will run from November 20 through December 24,2009. More details to come. Stay tuned!

The Art Barn is the home of the Salt Lake City Arts Council.  Located in Reservoir Park, near the University of Utah campus, the Art Barn has served as a community art center since its doors opened in the early 1930s.  The building houses the Finch Lane Gallery, and the Park Gallery.

On a personal note.... I was working on one of  a set of four Mandala's that I have been working on this past month and I needed some photos of authors that have meaning to me. I found these beautiful portraits of two women authors who have influenced my life in a profound way. I read the book  A Room Of One's Own by Virginia Woolf years ago and it helped me take charge of my life and move through a very difficult period of time. The book I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou made me fall in love with story and the magic of a perfectly written sentence. Art is limitless in the influence it has on our lives... I'm so glad it took me in this direction today. Thank you dear ladies...you have so enriched my life.

Hi Everyone!img_3124Sorry it's been so long since you have heard from me but.... I've been working like crazy and having a blast coming up with some new designs and techniques. Here is just a sample. Wahoo!!!! The first picture is of a necklace that I made to wear to an Art Show opening in LA. Boy, was that a great time! The second set of pictures is of a new technique that I call Faux Batik. It is so easy and the result is a real casual kind of hippie look. I love it!!! The next set of pictures is of my Funky Faux Needlepoint medallions. Lets get crazy! See all you fellow clay junkies at the Retreat in Chicago!!! img_3147img_3197img_3212img_3172img_3221img_3222img_3233
